Nuts about Crumble

    Okay so you've opened all the presses in the house and theres NOTHING to eat! And hey you don't want to go to the shop..So what to do??? Get what you got and make this delicious nut crumble!
      It feeds four hungry stomachs or yourself if your on the brink of serious starvation!  Best thing about this is that you can adapt it to fit WHATEVER you got in the house.  I'm always doing it and I love that this dish is so adaptable that its perfect for all of us who got vegetarian friends/roommates. 



Ingredients:

Crumble:

  • 4oz plain flour
  • 2oz butter
  • 1 oz porridge oats
  • 2oz mixed nuts

Filling:

  • 1 carrot
  • 1 parsnip
  • 8oz broccoli 
  • 8oz swede
  • 8oz celeric
  • 1 onion
  • 1 1/2 oz butter
  • 1 1/2 oz plain flour
  • sea salt & black pepper


Nutting the Crumble

  1. Turn your oven onto 190 c
  2. Peel and chop your vegetables (or do whatever with what you got!)
  3. Fill a large saucepan with 500ml of water with a teaspoon of salt
  4. Bring it to the boil add all the vegetables except the broccoli.
  5. Leave to cook for 5 minutes
  6. Add the broccoli and cook for another 5 minutes
  7. Take 150ml/1/4 pint of the water from the saucepan
  8. Drain the rest of the water
  9. Peel, slice & dice the onion
  10. Melt the butter in the pan & cook the onion for 2-3 minutes
CRUMBLE
  1. Sieve flour in a large mixing bowl
  2. Rub the butter in with your finger tips
  3. Stir in the oats and nuts

SAUCE!
    1. Stir in the flour and cook for a minute
    2. Take off the heat and add a little milk
    3. Stir well and continue adding a little milk at a time
    4. Now stir in the cooking water
    5. Put the sauce back on the pan and cook for a minute


The Finishing Touches
  1. Spoon the vegetables into the dish & pour the sauce over it
  2. Season with salt & pepper
  3. Evenly pour the crumble over the vegetables
  4. Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown


Now spoon it on to the plates
and EAT it before everyone else does:p
